Rare Enemy=Rare Drops?
Mods please move this if its in the wrong section.
Ive been doing a bit or research lately on rare items. Ive decided to look in depths of tyria, maybe to find some old lost monsters nobody goes out of their way to fight anymore. For example Apprentice of Verata, Fen Troll, Deserter Warrior, Bandit, Rotting Dragons, Lost White Mantle Knight, Ravanger. Those are enemies i found to have odd names. I have not tried to farm any of them so far, just looking around to see if anyone has had any experience of killing one of them and getting an "odd" item, weather it be a weapon, collectible drop, or salvage item. Let me know if you guys have information. Thanks. ps: i will try to start farming them and see what i come up with. |

Are you trying to check and see what types of Gold (Rare) Items they drop? It would probably be easier to check Wiki to see what they are known to drop, and from that, see whether or not farming them will be profitable.

Lost White Mantle Knights are part of a quest, and only drop a quest item.
The Ravager is a conditional enemy which shows up in a mission, and it DOES have a rare drop: allegedly they can drop ecto, if so the only "surface monster" which can. The bandits drop... I don't remember what it's called, but a belt which is used for a collector in Lions Arch. None of them drop unique greens (unless something's been added recently). |

Thanks for your posts so far, though i have checked wiki and it only lists their collectible drops and salvage items. Im wondering if maybe these monsters drop rare skin items. I have tried farming a few of them but there is no "easy" way to farm them that i found so far. Will try to keep you guys updated, any other information out there? :S

According to my experience, many monster loot tables have a 'once in a blue moon' entry, i.e., something that they drop very rarely, maybe once in 1000 kills. Just yesterday one of the Whirling Wisps on the way from EotN to King Jalis dropped a rare Platinum Blade and that was in NM. It's not like I haven't killed those little buggers in heaps while commuting back and forth but that was the first time I saw a PB drop.

Well I am not so sure if that blade is all that rare. I have over 16,000 Norn points. I mention that cause I have ONLY killed SNOW WURMS to get all of those points. so around 8,000-10,000 wurms have I destroyed on my LS alone.
They drop the Platinum Blade and I have about 7 of them in storage and I have them on some of my Hero's as well. So for me when one drops I am like.. nothing special here. That said I am sure that the baddies drop Great stuff from time to time. I was fighting a "hulking Stone thing" on the way for Alesha's ashes and it dropped a DIAMOND. I was like holy maccaroni there Bat Man. Never seen one since and I had NM not HM. Last edited by imnotyourmother; Sep 30, 2008 at 01:39 PM // 13:39.. Also, 'rare' in my original post meant just that it was golden, that's the common meaning. |

rubies and sapphires have a miniscule drop rate from anything (except charmable animals) that you kill in PvE. I've gotten sapphires from pretty much every area in tyria and cantha, and it wouldn't be a far stretch to say everywhere in elona as well. I've noticed a higher drop rate from those elementals, and from FoW and UW though.
As for the OP: it's very possible that there could be some undiscovered rare skin drop from those enemies you mentioned...but for some reason I doubt it. Plenty of people have done vanquishing through that area and killed Verata and his minions and nothing big has come out of it. I don't see it possible to farm those enemies anyway, they're all way out in the middle of nowhere and they have too many skills that counter many farming techniques. |
